Help paying for respite

Feeling a sense of control and choice is an important aspect of caregiving.

Apply for a respite voucher and receive up to $600 to use toward respite care. The program is open to both Kinship Caregivers caring for a child under 18, and caregivers of adults and children with a long-term chronic condition (LTCC).

Once approved, caregivers have the power to hire and train their own respite providers, which could be an agency, individual contractor, or even a family member or friend.

Please note that while we welcome applications from both first-time applicants and veterans of the program, we continue to give first-time applicants priority.

The financial Side of Caregiving

Kinship Caregivers

Kinship caregivers help keep family ties strong, support cultural traditions, and reduce the trauma of separation during tough times.

The New York State Kinship Navigator is a great resource for financial assistance, legal information, and referrals. It’s easy to find help when searching by county and service.

Respite vouchers for Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester County residents
are made possible thanks to a grant from the
Field Hall Foundation.

Finding a Respite Provider

NYSCRC has established a Respite Registry for providers located in New York State to allow them to list themselves and their services effectively. This registry aims to connect individuals and families with available respite care options throughout the state.

When hiring a respite provider, it's essential to ask the right questions and consider key factors to ensure a good fit for your needs. Utilizing the provided link can offer valuable tips and guidance on the selection process. Inquire about the provider's experience, training, and approach to care.

It's also crucial to discuss specific needs and preferences, including familiarity with certain conditions or special requirements. Knowing what to ask can significantly enhance the experience for both the caregiver and the individual receiving care, ultimately leading to a more positive and supportive environment.
