Make giving back your second act.

The AmeriCorps Senior Demonstration Program

Respite means taking a break. Here, members help caregivers of older adults and people with disabilities by providing short-term relief. They receive training and support and can transition from a stipend to a paid position if they wish. Our AmeriCorps Senior Demonstration Program seeks to recruit, train, and place AmeriCorps Seniors members in respite roles across Lewis, Oneida, Herkimer, Cortland, Tompkins, and Jefferson Counties in New York State.

To join the program, you must be at least 55 years old and live in or near the community you want to serve.

You may also qualify for an hourly stipend based on your income.

We’re collaborating with community champions to create Volunteer Respite Programs in the six program-designated counties. Lucy’s Quiet Place, in Frankfort, NY, is one of them.

I have just been, for a long time, aware of how much quiet suffering there is all around us. Not just around the world but right here in our own neighborhoods and in our own town. And I’ve felt kind of frustrated as to how I could help and make a difference, even a small difference, in other people’s lives that are much, much harder than mine.

  • Impact your community.

You might know someone who is currently caring for a family member or a close friend, or you may even have experience as a caregiver yourself. While providing assistance and support to others, caregivers frequently overlook their own personal needs and well-being. You can help them by offering your support, which includes giving them the much-needed time to rest, relax, and recharge their energy.

  • Rejoin the workforce.

This is a fantastic opportunity for you to reinvent yourself and get back to work, perhaps on your own terms and in a way that truly suits your ambitions. This comprehensive program provides you with everything you need, from essential training and provider certification to invaluable assistance with your resume, interviewing skills, and effective follow-up activities.

Let’s work together.
